Art, music and culture in London’s most vibrant neighbourhood
For over half a century Brixton has been one of London’s most diverse and exciting neighbourhoods, famous for its music, food, nightlife and unique atmosphere. On this tour we learn the history of the district, from the arrival of the first Jamaicans in the 1940s to the uprising against racist policing in the 1980s, which would be the largest explosion of violence in Great Britain for centuries. We also discuss Brixton’s cultural legacy through music, ranging from reggae, David Bowie and The Clash, and see murals from the area’s rising street art scene.
